The Final Collection

After creating a collection for men and women, I created a final collection of 8 each, and here they are....

Breathless: The Graphic Image

This module based on concept design, began with watching two movies: The Birds and Breathless. I didn't necessarily like or dislike The Birds, however I enjoyed Breathless much more, its European charm I guess! Anyway Breathless was the starting point of the module for me, and it eventually grew to become 'the graphic image'. What I liked most about Breathless was the cinematography: the natural lighting, the handheld camera, the live scenes of Paris, which all created something quite raw and gritty, and meant the scenes looked like they were photograph's. I didn't manage to find images of what I was exactly looking for, but here are some examples I did find.

So to begin with I looked at French photography of the early 1900s, its amazing black and white photography, which are very graphic, and look like they could be film stills. Artists I looked at include Henry Bressai, Robert Doisneau and Eugene Atget...

Following on from these, I found an amazing art, photography, graphics book which was also very inspiring. Mostly incorporating black and white photography, but also some coloured imagery. There were also some which had been manipulated, or looked as though they had been, which were also amazing...

As I was sticking to a graphic theme, I had no choice but to look to Bauhaus for inspiration, and they didn't let me down. They inspired the silhouette as you can see here...

I was inspired by Bauhaus' theory's on shape, so I literally made mock up garments out of the primary shapes, and this inspired my collection!
